Reuters reported today that Iranian lawmakers have urged their president to impose financial sanctions against Denmark and the Netherlands after two Danish newspapers reprinted a
satirical cartoon of the Prophet Mohammad in protest
against what they said was a plot to murder the cartoonist who drew it.
Muslims reacted harshly around the world, once again showing their inability to tolerate any depiction of their prophet in Western media. In the Gaza Strip, militant Islamic leaders called on Muslims to
attack Danish embassies and diplomats. Dozens of Islamic students burned Danish flags in Pakistan. In Kuwait, several parliamentarians called for a
boycott of Danish goods.
