Tennessee State Senator Doug Jackson (D-Dickson) introduced a bill yesterday
to allow citizens permitted to carry handguns to carry their weapons into
establishments that sell alcohol. While the bill does require the handgun owner not to drink the alcohol while on premises, it's not difficult to imagine that these individuals would still pull up for a pint or much worse, get pulled into a bar fight by intoxicated individuals. Regardless of how the scenario plays out, the gun could easily become involved.
The same senator has fought to eliminate late-night Girls Gone Wild video advertisements, calling the ads "disgusting" and "obscene." While we don't disagree, it's interesting to see how a politician gravitates so much towards the second amendment - the right to bear arms - and not the first amendment - the right to free speech - or in this case, the right to speak about baring more than arms.
