There are a number of initiatives that the government can do, but how about first paving the way to allow for public and private insurers and benefit providers to be able to insure obesity prevention programs (and not just drugs).

The number of children from low income families who are more affected by overweight and obesity is proportionately much greater than higher income families. This low income sector of our society however will not participate in any worthwhile preventative program unless it is insurable.

Let's start with the government passing legislation (immediately) to allow insuring of preventable lifestyle solution programs so our doctors and insurers can recommend and direct to those children in need. In the issue of childhood obesity, a dollar spent on an ounce of prevention is worth a ton of dollars we are going to have spend on cures.

The cost of obesity on our medical system has been pegged at $99 billion a year...and growing. The cost of doing nothing will be far greater than the cost of acting now. Don't just talk about this issue and then fund more studies, please do something, now!

re: Army shoots live pigs in training drill

Save a pig! (Shoot a PETA member instead.)

Sadly, most don't. Still, many of us New Yorkers have been fed up with this nanny-state socialist mayor for a long time. He concentrates on idiotic minutia like this, while the city's infrastructure is falling apart. Seems that those who love him the most are the limo libs, most of whom, like him, didn't grow up here, yet insist on invading my city and running it into the ground.

I've lived in NYC my whole life, but not until this clown took office did I ever feel the desire to leave it; and for good.

Teleworking is most definitely worth the effort!

Remember that song: "My baby takes the morning train. He works from 9 to 5 and then he takes the train back home again…”

Thank goodness work isn’t like that anymore!

Work is not a place. It’s not time bound. It is all about mobility and connectedness, anywhere on the globe.

I’m a big advocate of teleworking as a new business model for sustainability and economic productivitiy. The use of flexible working arrangements and telecommuting provide opportunities for increasing participation of women in the workforce, governments growing productivity and communities reducing their carbon footprint as fewer cars hit the road and large buildings burn lights and air conditioning plants.

Telework Australia says that having a workforce that works at least partly at home can reduce costs of heating, air-conditioning, car parks and lighting by 17 per cent of salary costs. And telework reduces avoidable staff turnover by over 20 percent, while managers report that employees are up to 40 percent more productive.

"Like an unchecked cancer, hate corrodes the personality and eats away its vital unity. Hate destroys a man's sense of values and his objectivity. It causes him to describe the beautiful as ugly and the ugly as beautiful, and to confuse the true with the false and the false with the true."
