Twitter hiring Government Liaison in D.C.

By OhMyGov! Jun 09 2010, 08:01 PM

Twitter is hiring its first Washington, D.C.-based employee, according to a job post on the company's website.

The 200-person firm, based in San Francisco, is seeking an entrepreneurial person to "help Twitter understand what we can do to better serve candidates and policymakers across party and geographical lines."

According to the job posting, the new hire will be a key member of a "fledgling public policy department" and will work to expand Twitter's presence inside the Beltway and beyond.

Twitter is currently used by hundreds of members of Congress and many federal government agencies for communicating to constituents, but has not been universally adopted despite its ease of use and low cost.

"We've done a lot of research and talked to a lot of people in Washington (including members of Congress and staffers, administration officials, think tank folks, etc) and elsewhere about what would be a good first step for us as we build a policy presence," said Twitter spokesman Sean Garrett today. "That step is this position."
