"Gov. Palin has an updated profile"
During hard economic times it seems everyone is doing their best to network, keep that resume updated, and be on the lookout for coveted job opportunities. The job market is flooded with everyone from recent college graduates, to longtime professionals who found themselves on the wrong end of downsizing, to former Vice Presidential candidates. Wait, what?
Yes that's right, it seems everyone's favorite Caribou Barbie, former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, has taken time out from studying the history of American foreign policy to hit the job market. Of course with this being the age of the Internet and all, it wouldn't be good enough to just make a few phone calls and check in on possible employment prospects...no, apparently Sarah thought it would be a better idea to publicly display her resume for all the world to admire and/or ridicule. That's what some would call being a maverick.
Palin recently posted her resume on the very useful, but completely boring, social networking site LinkedIn. The site, which allows potential employers and job seekers to network and share information, has over 48 million members from across the globe. As far as we know only one of those users came within a few million votes of being the second most powerful person on Earth, right behind Oprah.
So what tasty nuggets of information are displayed on Sarah's profile? Sadly, there really isn't anything too momentous to be seen. Palin lists "business deals" and "job inquiries" among her interests, some may look at this as being a curious move for someone who during last year's campaign made much of her background taking on the all-powerful Alaskan oil industry.
Under "Education," Palin lists her BA in communications and journalism from the University of Idaho (Go Vandals!), however, she doesn't mention that she also matriculated at such higher learning institutions as Hawaii Pacific University, North Idaho College, and Matanuska-Sustina College. One would imagine that these schools would love to claim such an accomplished and successful alumnus, but apparently that feeling wouldn't be mutual.
Palin goes onto detail her extensive job history, noting her stints as a city council member and eventual Mayor in the city of Wasilla (1992-2002), chair of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission (2003-2004), as well as her time in the Governor's Mansion (2006-2009) and as a Vice Presidential Candidate (2008- well, 2008). All in all it is a pretty impressive list of credentials, especially considering Palin never had a shameful and scary sounding job like "community organizer" or anything.
Ultimately, love her or hate her Sarah Palin is someone who is going to be on the cultural radar for a very long time. With the impending release of her soon-to-be hugely successful memoir and her status of Red State America's Sweetheart, Palin knows how to push all the right buttons to get people talking about her.
It isn't outrageous to think that posting her resume on a social networking site wasn't so much about being considered for that awesome telemarketer job that recently came up (Work from home! Make your own hours!), but rather a means to an end. That end being us sitting here discussing the fact that Sarah Palin is posting her resume on a social networking website. But hey, could be worse...she could be on Facebook. Oh wait, never mind.
