Federal Job Fair Schedule 2009 – national security and intelligence jobs

By Rebecca Fiss Jul 20 2009, 08:12 AM

If you didn’t make it to the federal job fair at National Building Museum on Thursday, then you missed quite a big to-do. But that doesn’t mean that your only opportunity to work for the federal government – currently one of the most popular employers on the market – has passed you by. Seventy-seven federal agencies set up booths at Thursday’s fair, OhMyGov! reported Friday, and they’ll be looking to fill 200,000 entry-level positions over the next four years.

The National Building Museum fair is gone, but big agencies such as the FBI, the NSA, the Secret Service and the Defense Intelligence Agency will be appearing at job fairs around the country during the next few months.

Although the federal hiring process has been criticized in the past for its inefficiency, Peter Orszag, director of the Office of Management and Budget, announced in June that the feds are making an effort to simplify the process. This change, along with others implemented by the new administration, is part of an effort to make Uncle Sam a more competitive employer.
