So if you work for the government you cannot get a haircut? Sounds like a good idea to me. No security escorts, get hair cut while staying at the office. No wasting time on travel, parking, etc. Workers PAY for the haircut. Good use of a lousy 9K too me!

Sure, it's great if you're a fed. But what about the rest of us paying for this service? Note they couldn't figure out a way to pay for the stylists from fees like every other hair salon operates...had to be another government hand out. They had to add a salary. Of, and for the record, federal benefits are valued at 40K+ per year, given health, dental, life insurance, accidental death, 401K, sick leave, vacation leave, and retirement benefits.

sick of this - Why not benefits? Why should a hair stylist be denied benefits like health care and sick leave? Because they don't get them at "every other hair salon"?  This isn't "every other hair salon." This salon serves the U.S. Senate, where one would hope that standards are a bit higher than elsewhere.

Did I say she shouldn't have benefits? NO. I said I shouldn't have to pay for her benefits because she is not serving the public by cutting the overblowdried hair of female congress members. I do not feel, as a taxpayer, that the money I work hard for is being well served by having a hair stylist dote on Congress. The members are here 3 days a week. That leaves 4 other days for them to get a haircut back home and give some money back to their beloved constituents instead of squeezing more from people like myself that work for a living and pay their own benefits.

this is silly

This position is no different than what we have on our military bases: federally funded hair stylists and barbers who serve our military families at a cost. I don't see anything wrong with having a similar position in the Congress, where members pay for the services. I'm also sure it brings in a lot more revenue than the salary, commission and benefits listed here.
