Colorado is fast becoming America’s role model for a “New Energy Economy.” Vestas, a Denmark-based wind turbine manufacturer, opened a blade manufacturing plant last year in Windsor, Colo. The company will also open a tower manufacturing factory in the city of Pueblo later this year, which will produce 900 towers per year, making it the largest of its kind worldwide. With a third plant opening next year in Brighton, it is estimated that Vestas will create about 2,500 jobs throughout the state.
“Colorado is a natural fit for a wind energy company,” Vestas spokesman Roby Roberts says, due to its central location and proximity to transit links. He added that Colorado has a large potential market for renewables, ranking 8th nationwide in wind capacity.
The Governor of Colorado, Bill Ritter, has said the three plants will result in “$700 million in capital investment in the state” and provide “important economic reinforcement to Colorado.” Good gov!
