Agencies May Rehire Retirees to Oversee Stimulus Spending

Nothing says stimulus like double-paying an employee!

Agencies are contemplating rehiring retirees and other former employees to bolster oversight of $787 billion in stimulus funds.

The Government Accountability Office received $25 million in funding in the stimulus package for oversight. It plans to hire 100 people for oversight duties and has reached out to 65 former GAO employees, said Gene Dodaro, acting comptroller general and head of GAO.
