A Moorestown, N.J., police officer and his former girlfriend have been indicted on a series of charges for the sexual assault of three girls over a period of eight years. The 45-count indictment includes charges of aggravated sexual assault and criminal sexual contact, as well as endangering the welfare of a child.
But that's not the end of troubles for patrolman Robert Melia, Jr., 38, who faces life in prison if convicted on all counts. He also apparently engaged in sex acts with cows.
During a search of Melia's house, it was discovered that he committed undisclosed sex acts with cows in 2006, somewhere in New Jersey. Police found video of the bawdy bovine encounters along with other pornographic materials. Melia did not comment during his plea hearing Monday.
Melia was suspended from duty immediately after his arrest. He and his former girlfriend, Heather Lewis, 33, of Pemberton Township, have both pleaded innocent. A court date is scheduled for January.
Lewis is being held at a county jail on
$300,000 bail, while Melia is free on $410,000 bail. Nothing more can really be said.

"Officer, step out of the cow, please."
