Fox News finally turns on Sarah Palin

By Andrew B. Einhorn Nov 07 2008, 09:50 AM

In the wake of the election, a few more tidbits about Sarah Palin have emerged as campaign staffers, now free from fear of blowing the campaign for John McCain, come forward to tell their observations about the Alaskan Governor. The latest report, which came from conservative news reporters at Fox News, discusses Palin's lack of basic civics knowledge, including an inability to distinguish Africa as a continent or what countries were involved in the North American Free Trade Agreement.

"There was great concern in the McCain campaign that Sarah Palin lacked the degree of knowledgeability necessary to be a running mate, a vice president, and a heartbeat away from the presidency," said Fox News correspondent Carl Cameron. "We’re told by folks that she didn’t know what countries that were in NAFTA, the North American Free Trade Agreement, that being Canada, the US, and Mexico. We’re told she didn’t understand that Africa was a continent rather than a country just in itself ... a whole host of questions that caused serious problems about her knowledgeability."

Fox News went on to report that Palin often mishandled basic political processes, such as preparing for interviews, and was often emotionally volatile and difficult to reason with.

"She got very angry at staff, thought that she was mishandled.....was particularly angry about the way the Katie Couric interview went. She didn’t accept preparation for that interview when the aides say that that was part of the problem. And that there were times that she was hard to control emotionally there's talk of temper tantrums at bad news clippings."

In the wake of this news, despite what you think of Senator John McCain or President-elect Obama, everyone should be breathing a sign of relief that Sarah Palin did not go on to the nation's second highest position.

Do you really think Sarah Palin didn't know Africa was a continent? c'mon. She may not be the world's most erudite person, but she ain't dumb. This is GOP insiders who disapproved of her now airing negative slurs to discredit a 2012 campaign or other ambitions. and it will stick, because it was done via Fox News, so everyone will say "wow, even Fox is saying...." Don't fall for the same trap, OhMyGov. your editorial angle is usually right on target, but you missed this one.

Funny, people defended Bush after each gaffe and exhibition of ignorance e.g. "I don't speak Mexican." Yes, this could be an angry staffer. But given her comments about keeping the Russians at bay in Alaska and background, it's not entirely impossible. "We have trade missions back and forth. We-- we do-- it's very important when you consider even national security issues with Russia as Putin rears his head and comes into the air space of the United States of America, where-- where do they go? It's Alaska. It's just right over the border. It is-- from Alaska that we send those out to make sure that an eye is being kept on this very powerful nation, Russia, because they are right there. They are right next to-- to our state."
