Nudists want to vote naked

By Andrew B. Einhorn Nov 04 2008, 09:44 AM

AP reported today that "a nudist community on Florida's west coast wants to establish the first clothing-optional polling site." While the group does not qualify as a special needs demographic - unless you count the greater need for heat - nothing in Florida law actually prohibits the state from establishing such a facility.

Still, the supervisor of elections says he is opposed to creating any new precincts before the redistricting of 2010 is implemented. And a variety of questions remain unanswered.

For instance, would the clothing-optional facility bring out more voters?

Surely a few more men would opt out of their $9.99 on-demand adult films and head down to the polls. The precinct might also find themselves with a sudden influx of volunteers to run the centers. But would the women make it out?

And then there's the temperature issue. If the place is clothing-optional, would the indoor air temperature have to be raised to keep everything, well, up to expectations? It would be a cruel joke to have the air conditioner pumping hard inside the polling facility, but it might be necessary to keep folks from expressing their...enthusiasm for the political process.

Finally, where would the "I voted today" stickers be placed?

Perhaps instead of a sticker, those who show up without clothes could receive one of those removable tattoos in a place of their choosing. This would avoid unnecessary hair removal, once the sticker's usefulness ends.
