Politicians agree to use lie detectors during debate

Time to see who's inside the circle of trust

By Andrew B. Einhorn Oct 14 2008, 11:59 AM

What does it say about the state of American politics when two challengers for an Indiana congressional seat agree to be hooked up to lie detectors during a debate?

One of two things: 1) politicians know no one trusts them, and 2) debate formats too easily allow politicians to lie. Perhaps this proposal isn't as "bizarre" as party officials have called it.

Last week, Ninth District Republican Party Chairman Larry Shickles proposed the use of polygraphs on Democratic Rep. Baron Hill, GOP challenger Mike Sodrel and Libertarian candidate Eric Schansberg. Both Sodrel and Schansberg agreed to wear the polygraph, while the incumbent Hill declined to even comment on the idea, AP reported.

The trio are scheduled to debate Oct. 21 but unfortunately, the lie detectors won't be included. Maybe next time fellas.
