Signs of financial hardship for many feds are showing in the government’s retirement program, the Thrift Savings Plan, where members are taking out more emergency withdrawals and loans than in recent memory.
Federal employees and retirees made almost 12,000 hardship withdrawals in July — the largest amount since at least 2002.
