Leave donations needed for DOJ employee with cancer

By Andrew B. Einhorn Apr 29 2008, 11:37 AM

A part-time Georgetown law student, Donald Jacobsen, has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of metastatic cancer.  Don is undergoing extensive chemotherapy treatment, which will require him to miss considerable time at his job at the US Department of Justice (USDOJ).  Unfortunately, Don does not have sufficient leave available to cover his time away from work.

The federal government has an outstanding program called the Voluntary Leave Transfer Program (VLTP) that allows federal employees to transfer annual leave to fellow employees in need. Leave must be donated in whole hours and the minimum amount an employee may donate is 4 hours. Any unused donated leave is returned to the leave donor(s) when the medical emergency ends.

If you or someone you know works for the federal government and you or they would like to donate annual leave to Don, please direct any questions to Ms. Melissa Dyson, Leave Coordinator for the USDOJ Civil Rights Division, at (202) 514-4153 (telephone), (202) 514-6603 (fax).  You may also donate money to Don by contacting Melissa.

Please let our editorial staff know how many hours or how much money you have donated by emailing us at editors@ohmygov.com so we can track the progress of the Leave Donation Campaign to share with other viewers and federal employees.

General information and necessary forms are available at the DOJ website found by clicking here.

Thank you for your support and generosity in advance.
