At airport security checkpoints, the requirement to remove laptops from cases slows lines more than any other requirement. As a result, the Transportation Security
Administration is attempting to expedite the airport screening process by providing a way to let travelers leave laptops in
their cases when moving through security.
TSA wants to find a
"checkpoint-friendly" case that would grant screeners a clear view of the laptop's insides as it travels through an X-ray machine. Prototypes are being solicited from companies.
One possible design is a case that
unfolds like a book, with a laptop on one side and gear on the other
side. But other prototypes will likely be developed for the 250 million air travelers who carry laptops each year. Read more
