TSA Seeks Way to Avoid Removing Laptops from Cases

At airport security checkpoints, the requirement to remove laptops from cases slows lines more than any other requirement.  As a result, the Transportation Security Administration is attempting to expedite the airport screening process by providing a way to let travelers leave laptops in their cases when moving through security. 

TSA wants to find a "checkpoint-friendly" case that would grant screeners a clear view of the laptop's insides as it travels through an X-ray machine. Prototypes are being solicited from companies. 

One possible design is a case that unfolds like a book, with a laptop on one side and gear on the other side.  But other prototypes will likely be developed for the 250 million air travelers who carry laptops each year.  Read more

It's nice to know that officials at TSA are thinking about the passengers and not just their security.
