Global Terrorist Incident Map Causing Terror?

A number of close contacts have forwarded the address of a website which lists all terrorist and suspected terrorist activities around the world on a world map.  The site is called the Global Incident Map: Terrorism Events and Other Suspicious Activities.

While not quite within the confines of our focus, we thought it important to highlight the map's usefulness as a tool to keep up on what's happening around the world.  A word of caution; the flashing icons scattered across the map that represent "terrorist activities" tend to inspire panic and a feeling of impending doom, despite the fact that many of the incidents turn out to be hoaxes.

Nonetheless, the website provides a novel way of reporting information quickly, similar to our own Lost & Found map.  If you'd like to view the map, just click on the image below.

Bomb hoaxes, bomb threats, suspicious powder incidents and anthrax hoaxes, etc - those are all terrorist acts if they were intentional. Either way, they still cause fear and terror, bomb squads still have to spend tax dollars responding to hoaxes ( and consequently not be available to deal with the real bomb incident across town while they deal with a hoax), buildings and businesses still have to shut down costing millions in lost productivity, lost income, etc - a simple hoax at an airport can cause hundreds of people to be delayed, missing their connecting flights, and missing that important business meeting. Some false alarms are real events that fizzled, some hoaxes are the bad guys testing the emergency response, and some hoaxes are designed to draw in the first responders where the non-hoax devices are then detonated. Hoaxes probably cost this country 100 times more than real devices do each year.
