GAO Finds Faults in TSA Screening

By Richard Hartman Nov 16 2007, 05:55 AM

On 15 Nov 2007, the US Government Accountability Office (GAO) released a report, “Vulnerabilities Exposed Through Covert Testing of TSA’s Passenger Screening Process,” which highlighted several weaknesses in the use of technology to screen passengers and their luggage.

On several occasions they were able to get deadly bomb-making material, readily available and accessible to the public, past airport security equipment that could be used to severely damage aircraft in flight.

Is this another example of government outrage?  Absolutely not!  This is an example of the system working.  Now the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) - the body responsible for airport screening – can use this report to focus on improved technologies to enhance our safety.

Every once in a while the bureaucracy works…and our founding fathers’ concept of checks and balances is found not only to be genius but in some cases life saving.

Better the GAO than the Terrorist!
