The Department of Homeland Security has launched an "investigation" into a costume party fundraiser where a
man dressed in a striped prison outfit, dreadlocks and black make-up allegedly offended a few guests. Julie Myers, head of
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), hosted the party and served on a costume judging panel that noted the offensive costume's originality.
Why is there a need for an investigation? Someone wore a costume that pissed other people off. What is there to investigate? There are two possible conclusions one can reach from an investigation: the costume was inappropriate or more alcohol should have been provided so people would lighten up and remember they were at a costume party.
Instead of running ICE, Myers is allocating her time this week to apologizing for the "inappropriate and offensive" costumes. CNN reported that Myers is busy calling, writing letters, and meeting with members of House Homeland Security Committee and the
National Association of African-Americans in the Department of Homeland
Security, a non-profit comprised solely of DHS employees. This seems like a good use of taxpayer dollars. It's not like Myers has something better to do - like manage 15,000 employees and prevent illegal immigration.
